Ministry of Road, Transport, and Highway Awards Three Multimodal Logistics Parks in India

The Indian Ministry of Road, Transports and Highway has been making strides in the logistics sector by awarding three multimodal logistics (MMLP) parks in 2023. These parks, located in Indore, Bengaluru, and Nagpur, are being built with investments totaling Rs 3,553 crore, as per the government press release. The projects aim to promote multimodal connectivity in the country and are expected to contribute significantly to the growth of India’s logistics sector. These MMLPs will also play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and strengthening the country’s infrastructure.

Bengaluru has been allotted the largest space for the MMLP, with a total land allotment of 400 acres, followed by Indore with 255 acres, and Nagpur with 155 acres. The ministry has also invited bids for two MMLPs in Anantapur and Pune, and feasibility studies for other locations are currently underway. The completion of these projects is expected to bring about a positive impact on India’s logistics sector and overall economic growth.

The MMLPs are expected to be multi-modal freight-handling facilities that will consist of mechanized warehouses, specialized storage solutions, inter-modal transfers facilities, container terminals, and bulk/breakbulk cargo terminals. These facilities aim to cater to both domestic and EXIM cargo and provide value-added services such as customs clearance, late-stage processing activities, and cold chain operations.

In addition to the projects currently underway, the ministry is also preparing feasibility study reports for MMLPs in Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Nashik, Mumbai, Jammu, and Patna. Once completed, these MMLPs are expected to play a vital role in the growth of India’s logistics sector, as well as contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions and enhance the country’s infrastructure.

In conclusion, the development of these MMLPs is a significant step towards promoting multimodal connectivity in India and will have a positive impact on the logistics sector and the country’s overall economic growth. The focus on reducing carbon emissions and strengthening the infrastructure through these projects is commendable and sets a positive example for other countries to follow.
